Madhu Kishwar is an activist, writer and publisher. She is best known as the founder editor and trustee of Manushi, a journal about women and society. She is deeply involved in a wide range of issues such as electoral reform, people’s struggles for basic survival needs, women’s rights for property, and religious conflicts, to name a few. She is an activist who is well known for taking a non-partisan, non-violent, and culturally sensitive approach to any economic, political or social problem confronting India today.

The author of several books, one of her recent publications is Deepening Democracy: Challenges of Globalisation and Governance. She is currently senior fellow, Centre for the Study of Developing Societies.
