Vasantha Surya writes investigative articles, features and reviews, poems in English and Tamil, translations, and childrenís stories.
Apart from a number of translations, she has written for The Hindu, The Indian Express, The Times of India, Frontline, and The Indian Review of Books. She has written over 300 investigative and comment articles, book and film reviews, focussing frequently on social and cultural change, education and women's issues. She has also edited two books on yoga by TKV Desikachar.
Vasantha Surya was born in New Delhi in 1942, but went to high school in Washington DC. She studied history at Bombay University to Masters level.
She has lived in Germany, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, and Hyderabad. Since 1980, she has been based in Madras, with extended trips to the US until 2002.
