Poile Sengupta is one of India’s foremost playwrights in English. Her first full length play, Mangalam was published by Seagull in Body Blows (2000). In 1999-2000, Sengupta received a senior fellowship of the Government of India, writing seven plays for children, including a full length musical Yavamajakka!
Poile Sengupta has written extensively for children. Her column “A Letter to You”, in Children’s World, ran for nearly three decades. Apart from several books, her stories have been included in important anthologies like The Puffin Treasury of Modern Indian Stories and The Puffin Book of Funny Stories, Sorry, Best Friend and One World , and The Best of Target.
She is a well known stage actor in Bangalore where she has her own theatre group, Theatre Club.
