Anamika (b.1961) is one of the brightest young stars in the Hindi literary firmament. Poet, essayist, translator, novelist, academic, she has been preoccupied with issues of language, form and feminist criticism both as a creative writer and as a teacher. As a critic, she has written on the metaphysical poets and the Moderns; on women’s writing, French feminism, myth and literature. As a poet her work dwells on deep silences and women’s condition.
Anamika has published two poetry anthologies, Samay ke Shahar Mein (In the City of Time) and Beejakshar (Seed-word); two novellas, and a collection of short stories. She is the recipient of several awards, most recently the Munmun Sarkar Puraskar (2003).
